Dr. Kenny Border


It’s a GREAT day to be a Mustang or Fillie!

  Shallowater ISD is pleased to welcome Dr. Kenneth Border to the position of superintendent of schools for SISD.  Even though Dr. Border confidently stepped into the position of superintendent on January 5, 2015, he has already made an impact and has left footprints of leadership in the halls of Shallowater schools. 
  Dr. Border brings a positive philosophy of education along with him to the position of superintendent believing that the purpose of schooling is to provide an opportunity for all students to acquire a quality education in a safe, nurturing, and positive environment. He strongly believes and portrays the attitude that education is the sole means for breaking down barriers, and he states boldly that he is the outstanding leader and scholar he is today due to public education. He holds the goal that all public schools, especially Shallowater ISD, will continuously strive to create that same environment for all students at SISD.
  Doctor Kenneth Border brings with him an abundance of educational experience having received his Doctorate of Education from Baylor University and his Master’s Degree in Education Administration from The University of Texas Permian Basin.  Remaining focused on his goal to serve an outstanding school district, Dr. Kenneth Border came to Shallowater in July of 2006.  Dr. Border has since served as Shallowater Middle School Principal (July 2006-July 2014), Shallowater Head Baseball Coach (Feb. 2010-June 2010), Shallowater Secondary Schools Coordinator (July 2010-July 2014), Executive Director for the Shallowater Education Foundation (July 2011-Present), and Assistant Superintendent to Mr. Phil Warren at SISD (July 2014-December 2014).
  Dr. Border carries leadership characteristics such as being a visionary leader, an effective communicator, fostering a vison of positive culture, goal-oriented leadership qualities, ethical leadership, a strong team contributor, goals of school success, consistent leadership, and is a positive role model in being a visible leader within the District.   
  Dr. Border is exceedingly involved within the Shallowater district, community and region holding the title of TASSP Region XVII Middle Level Principal of the Year (2014-15), Twenty Under Forty Recipient through the Young Professionals of Greater Lubbock 2013-Lubbock Chamber of Commerce), met Standard and received distinctions in Top 25% Student Progress and Academic Achievement—Mathematics during his time as Middle School Principal (2012-13), TASSP Middle Level Principal of the Year (2012-13), Principal of a Texas Schools to Watch Designated Campus (2012), Texas Middle School Association—Board of Directors/President-Elect for 2015, Member of ASCD and NASSP (2012-Present), Executive Director for the Shallowater Education Foundation (2011-Present), Principal of Shallowater Middle School—Recognized Campus (2011), RYHT—Harvard Graduate School of Education Leadership: An Evolving Vision Program Participant (2011, 2009), RMHC Board of Directors—Member/2013—Treasurer (2011-Present), Member of the Shallowater Lions Club (2010-Present), 2A All South Plains Coach of the Year (2010), President for the South Plains Middle School Association (2012-14), Vice President for the South Plains Middle School Association (2009-12), Principal of Shallowater Middle School—Recognized Campus (2010, 2007), Odessa American Community Board Member (2003-2006), and member of the Texas Association of Secondary Principals (2000-Present).
  Dr. Border holds a multitude of certifications consisting of the following: Teacher Evaluation and Support System Appraiser (2014), Texas Principal Evaluation System Appraiser (2014), Tarleton Assessment of Principals (2005), Standard Certificate—Superintendent (EC-12) (2004), Instructional Leadership Training to Instructional Leadership Development (2002), Professional Certificate-Mid-Management Administrator (Grades PK-12) (1999), Temporary Certificate-Assistant Principal (1998), Professional Development and Appraisal System Training (1998), Provisional Certificate-Elementary Self-Contained (Grades 1-8), Provisional Certificate-Elementary English (Grades 1-8) (1997), and Driver’s Education Certification (1996).
  The experience and positive vision that Dr. Kenneth Border holds has always had the emphasis that learning has been, and always will be, to make decisions in the best interest of the students. He also carries the ability to recognize quality instructional approaches as well as the confidence to counsel and challenge teachers to utilize varied strategies to engage students. 
  Dr. Border embraces the experience to effectively integrate the core District philosophy into district campuses and classrooms. Continuing in the vision of Shallowater ISD, he transmits the goal to do what is best for students as it relates to preparing them for post-secondary experiences whether that is in the work force, or in an institution of post-secondary education.
  These beliefs and goals of Dr. Kenneth Border’s are rooted in the value of honesty, integrity and effort, and these roots will continue to allow for tremendous success now, and in the future, for Shallowater Independent School District and the outstanding students who walk through the doors of our great schools.
